Quilters del Sol is a group of ladies (men welcome!) who meet each month on the Costa del Sol in Spain to pursue their passion for patchwork and quilting. From small beginnings of half a dozen members, the group now has many active members who sew for themselves, their friends and families, work on charity projects, visit quilt shows and organise workshops. We held our first ever exhibition in La Cala de Mijas in the summer of 2016.
The members come from a wide area on the Costa del Sol - from Estepona in the West to Benalmadena in the East and Alora and Pizzara in the North. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except in August when it's even too hot for us to sew!). Having met at Santa Maria Bowls Club for a number of years, we now have a brand new home at Calahonda Baptist Church and will be holding our first meeting there in July. Check our calendar of events for details of the next meeting.
As well as our monthly meetings, we also hold regular sewing days which may be workshops where we all learn a new skill or work on a group project on the fourth Wednesday of the month. For the workshops, our tutors are either our regular members or visiting tutors - in the past from the UK as well.
Over the last 15 months, whilst we have been under Covid restrictions, we have been getting together using Zoom - sewing and talking together only from our own homes.
Our aim is to enjoy patchwork and quilting, help others to find the same enjoyment and pass on our collective knowledge to encourage beginners. Everyone is welcomed, so please come to a meeting and see what we do. We do have a small membership fee for regular members, but visitors are always welcome to join us. There is a nominal fee for each meeting, and a little more for workshops.
